There have been many news reports about the closing of the National Soccer Hall of Fame and Museum. This notice is meant to bring the general public up-to-date information on its status. It will be updated as new information becomes available.

The organization is at a significant juncture in its evolution. Despite many successes, the challenges of generating sufficient earned revenue, engaging sponsors, and developing philanthropic contributions have not been as successful as needed, requiring the Hall to explore alternative modes of operation.  As the organization engages in discussions about the future, it will strive to identify more cost effective ways to serve its constituents and enhance its reach to the growing community of soccer players and fans across the country.

Consequently, the museum will be closing to the public after Labor Day with the exception of dates on which matches are played on our fields.   This action and the cost savings associated with it will provide the time and resources required to complete the planning for a new, sustainable operating model.

To be clear, the National Soccer Hall of Fame will continue to advance its mission of celebrating the history, honoring the heroes, inspiring the youth, and preserving the legacy of the sport of soccer.  While the future mode of operation is not yet certain, please be assured that there will be no interruption to the upcoming elections, and Induction 2010 will still be planned for next summer.  The staff and Board of Directors remain as committed as ever to the ongoing promotion and celebration of the Hall of Famers and the history of soccer in America.

Updates will be provided in the weeks and months ahead.
